Nat Couture: Final Preparations
The hay is in the barn and it's now time to relax and enjoy a few weeks of rest before taking on the beast. This year the goal race is within driving distance so the whole family is coming and we're making a vacation out of it. We are taking a week to drive to PA stopping through the white mountains, and green mountains and anything else we find that's fun and scenic. Today, Thursday before the race, we're in Ithica, NY, which is a beautiful spot to hike and tour around. This morning I ran the Buttermilk Falls gorge trail and what a fantastic trail. I'll be sure to come back, maybe for the Cayuga Trails 50 miler :).
I've figured out that there is no mandatory gear for the race so that makes packing easy. I really just need to plan for some severe heat and humidity. The race starts at 5am and the super stocked aid stations will be roughly every 10k, so I'm going to put some spare shoes, clothing and lights in 2 or 3 drop bags late in the race and will hope I make the first one before dark using a pretty conservative split. Only 2 more days till go time, and I'm getting restless. Time to finish up the drive and get my first look at the race course.
